Selwyn Village – Caswell-Puckey Apartments

The Caswell and Puckey apartment buildings sit on the northern edge of Selwyn Village, with expansive views across the Waitemata Harbour towards the city and the North Shore. The Brief for the new buildings was for them to create their own sense of place, while fitting into and enhancing the Village environment.

The new buildings have been designed for solar access and coastal views. A protected, welcoming entry plaza sits between the two buildings, leading down to a new communal garden area.  The built form, plaza and landscaping elements combine to nestle comfortably into their environment.

All the apartments are either two-bedroom, three- bedroom or two-bedroom plus study and there are a range of layout typologies.  The development includes some premium apartments incorporating additional amenity and features.  Each apartment building also features a large, ground-floor communal lounge, with fully-fitted kitchen, which opens out onto the central plaza.

Externally, the materials palette is simple and robust, with painted precast, painted lightweight concrete panels and timber-look composite weatherboards.  The buildings generally feature box frames and clean lines, evoking a contemporary, urban sensibility, while harbour elevations utilise a more coastal, residential language, with cantilevered decks and sheltering roof eaves.
